For my self portrait i decided to do a zombie look using only pencils. Throughout this project i used a lot of values. On half of my face where the skin appears to be peeled off i decided to go darker than the rest of my face but still add highlights to show where the light is hitting and to show the texture of the blood and tissue underneath. One part where i think depth was portrayed the best is in the hoodie where the cloth is being folded. I think the range in values and the shadows of the hood-laces are what really brought the depth together making it seem realistic. I chose this portrait style because i wanted to use the peeled skin on the face to show texture and pull what i have learned throughout the semester into this piece. I was able to show how i could go darker in some areas and also be able to add highlights. I think that the most important aesthetic quality of this piece is the wound on the face because it adds a darker contrast to the other half of the face and it catches your attention. I think this piece uses a good source of light in adding the different shadows. Movement was shown through the way the hair is drawn. I think this piece was a success because i incorporated different values and textures to bring the piece together and also because it looks realistic.
